The physician specialties that charge the most 

Cardiac surgeons are the physician specialty with the highest average charges, according to a November report from Definitive Healthcare. 

The organization analyzed claims filed from January to October 2023. 

Here are the 25 medical specialties that charge the most, followed by their average charge per provider.

  4. Critical care: $13,674
  5. Pediatric critical care: $12,884
  6. Neonatal-perinatal medicine: $12,752
  7. Neurosurgery: $11,807

  9. Gynecological oncology: $9,520
  10. Surgical oncology: $9,296
  11. Hospital medicine: $9,178
  12. General surgery: $8,681
