Dr. Michael Marin helps build ASC in rural Uganda village — 4 key notes

New York City-based Mount Sinai Medical Center's Chairman of the Department of Surgery Michael Marin, MD, partnered with a private donor to build a stripped-down ASC in the rural Ugandan village of Kyabirwa, Architectural Record reports.

Here's what you should know:

1. Dr. Marin is an established vascular surgeon, who has championed global surgical health and improved access to care.

2. Dr. Marin selected Kyabirwa because of its already established health clinic. The clinic's providers would be able to staff the ASC.

3. The center will be 8,500 square feet, and will feature two operating rooms. It also will tout preoperative and recovery rooms. The ASC will have telemedicine capabilities, linking local providers and patients to Mount Sinai for consultations.

4. The center will be operational in 10 months.
