Philadelphia-based Penn Medicine appointed Ben Stanger, MD, PhD, director of the Penn Pancreatic Cancer Research Center.
Here's what you should know:
1. Dr. Stanger is an associate professor of gastroenterology at the university.
2. In his new position, he will lead a multidisciplinary team as it researches ways to prevent and cure pancreatic cancer.
3. Dr. Stanger was the center's scientific director. He is replacing founding director Robert Vonderheide, MD. Dr. Vonderheide will serve as the director of Penn Medicine's Abramson Cancer Center.
4. Dr. Stanger earned his medical degree and PhD from Boston-based Harvard Medical School.
