4 strategies to boost physician engagement

A disengaged physician can harm a practice's success in the value-based payment world. However, a practice can employ various strategies to increase physician engagement, according to Strategies for Nurse Managers.

Here are four strategies:

1. Listen to your physicians. When you hear physicians' concerns, this facilitates trust. This trust will then translate to a successful working relationship. Have these conversations regularly and learn how to align an individual physician's goals with a practice's overall goals.

2. Find physician champions. Identify physician champions who can serve as liaisons to both the executives and administration. These individuals can ensure communication throughout an organization is efficient.

3. Look out for physicians falling below the marker. It is crucial for all physicians to comply with The Joint Commission standards. Executives should identify non-compliant physicians and work with them to meet these standards. This is where a physician champion comes into the mix and can ensure this physician is modifying his or her behavior accordingly.

4. Use data to motivate physicians. When meeting with physicians to change a behavior or process, come equipped with data to back up your claim. Data is a motivating factor and validates why something should be amended to improve efficiencies throughout an organization.
