3 factors could snare reimbursement for acute pain blocks

A few factors could have practices coming up short when it comes to reimbursement for acute pain blocks, according to Anesthesia Business Consultants President and CEO Tony Mira.

Three possible causes:

1. A block may be contraindicated according to patient-specific factors.

2. The provider may not have properly documented that the block was performed for postoperative pain management services at the surgeon's request.

3. Though rare, coders may not notice the block.
