Minnesota pain clinic aims to increase access to naloxone

Minneapolis-based Nura, a pain clinic, will begin offering free Narcan kits to certain patients taking opiate analgesics.

Narcan, also known as naloxone, can be used to reverse an opioid overdose. The clinic's physicians believe that giving patients access to naloxone will help them transition away from opioids.

"We do everything we can to reduce and eliminate the need for opioids in our chronic pain patients," said Peter Schultz, MD, a partner in the practice. His brother, David Schultz, MD, founded Nura.

Nura began testing the program in August, when the CDC called for increased access to naloxone.

Nura offers medication management, physical therapy and behavioral health services, along with interventional procedures such as nerve blocks and spinal injections.
