The 3 most challenging ASC accreditation standards & how to face them

The Joint Commission shared the most challenging standards for ASCs, as well as tips on how to comply with them.

Three things to know:

1. Infection prevention and control activities. ASCs can become compliant with infection prevention and control standards by assessing staff use of gloves, reviewing policies and testing staff knowledge of evidence-based guidelines.

2. Medical equipment disinfection. Reviewing the guidelines for properly disinfecting medical equipment, reviewing sterilization processes and conducting spot checks of instruments can ensure compliance with medical equipment disinfection standards.

3. Physician credentialing. Checking physician credentialing files, designating a staff member to be in charge of reviewing records and establishing consistent processes can help ASCs become compliant with physician credentialing standards.
