Blue Cross, Cambia call off partnership days after Dr. Patrick Conway's resignation

Blue Cross Blue Shield of North Carolina and Portland, Ore.-based Cambia Health Solutions called off a planned partnership on Sept. 27, according to the Winston-Salem Journal.

The organizations had planned to share management, administrative, operational and other corporate services. Patrick Conway, MD, who resigned as Blue Cross NC's president and CEO on Sept. 25, would have led the combined entity.

Dr. Conway resigned at the recommendation of the board of trustees, which stemmed from reports that Dr. Conway was arrested in June for allegedly driving while impaired with his two children in the car.

Blue Cross NC's COO, Gerald Petkau, has taken over as interim CEO.
