Forty-six healthcare data breaches occurred in April, which is more than any month on record since the HHS' Office for Civil Rights began publishing reports in 2019, according to HIPAA Journal.

The key details to know:

1. Pensacola, Fla.-based Clearway Pain Solutions Institute, which operates clinics and an ASC, was affected by an EMR data breach which exposed 35,000 records through an unauthorized access or disclosure. The breach was the third largest in April.

2. The two largest breaches in April were hacking and IT incidents affecting Doctors Management Services (206,695 records exposed) and Centrelake Medical Group (197,661 records exposed).

3. While the number of breaches occurring in April was high, the number of records exposed was 23.9 percent lower than in March.
