Estero Urgent Care shutters after 2 big providers enter market: Healthcare options now 'immense'

Estero (Fla.) Urgent Care closed one of its offices at the end of February, not long after two large healthcare providers opened medical facilities in the area, according to News-Press, part of the USA Today Network.

What you should know:

1. The urgent care center is downsizing to a single location in North Naples, Fla.

"We just thought it was in our interest," Former Estero Urgent Care Manager Rob McGann said. "The number of healthcare options available now in Estero is immense."

2. The county's healthcare options have expanded significantly in the past few months.
Two other urgent care offices operate in Estero, and Fort Myers, Fla.-based Lee Health and Naples, Fla.-based NCH Healthcare System both opened medical facilities there in December 2018.

3. Lee Health's $140 million medical facility offers services including emergency room, outpatient surgery, physician group clinics and rehabilitation therapy. NCH Healthcare's $34 million NCH project also offers an ER, outpatient surgery and physician offices.

4. The area's healthcare services may continue expanding. HCA Healthcare received approval for a planned hospital and bought nearly 100 acres in Estero for $52.5 million, although Lee Health and NCH filed legal challenges to the project.
