Florida hospital closes ASC due to lack of specialists; may reopen in the fall: 4 key notes

Laura Dyrda -

An ASC operated by The Villages (Fla.) Regional Hospital has closed due to a lack of specialists, according to a report from Villages-News.

Four key notes:

1. The Villages Regional Hospital CEO said the outpatient surgical facility temporarily closed on March 1 because it did not attract enough specialists to continue operating as normal.

2. The hospital's administration plans to evaluate the closure in the fall and potentially reopen the facility if it makes sense. The report noted several new physicians have moved into the area.

3. Originally opened in 2015, the multispecialty ASC included ophthalmology, podiatry, dermatology, pain management and plastic surgery.

4. The closure occurred amid other issues at The Villages Regional Hospital, including a one-star rating from CMS.
