U of Illinois Chicago to open surgery center after philanthropist donates $10M — 4 insights

The University of Illinois at Chicago will soon begin to develop the Bruno and Sallie Pasquinelli Outpatient Surgery Center after the couple donated $10 million to UIC.

What you should know:

1. The six-story surgery center will have eight operating rooms.

2. The center will eventually allow UIC to move lower-acuity cases to the outpatient space.

3. The center will also allow UIC to expand its robotic surgery program and offer robotic surgery techniques in the outpatient surgery center.

4. UIC expects to break ground on the surgery center in 2020.

Mr. Pasquinelli was born at a hospital in UIC's neighborhood. He commented on what the occasion meant to him: "In essence, I have come full circle. To have the Pasquinelli name on a building on Taylor Street in this Italian-American neighborhood means the world to Sallie and me. We want our family and our children to see this and for it to inspire them."
