Florida considers revising ASC definition to permit overnight stays: 4 details

The Florida Senate is considering a bill that would allow overnight stays in ASCs.

Four details:

1. Senate Bill 7078 would make a change to the legal definition of "ASC" that would allow patients to stay in those facilities for up to 24 hours.

2. Florida law currently defines ASCs as elective surgical care facilities where a patient is discharged "the same working day and is not permitted to stay overnight."

3. If passed, SB7078 will allow ASCs to perform higher-acuity procedures.

4. More than 450 licensed ASCs operate in Florida, according to an op-ed published by The News-Press, part of the USA Today network.
