Faculty at the University of Central Arkansas in Conway received more then $1 million in research grants from research award groups.
Shahyar Ahmadi, MD, director of the Shoulder and Elbow Surgery Center at the University of Arkansas, will support the work of University of Central Arkansas researchers Sinan Kockara and Tansel Halic as they develop virtual simulators for rotator cuff surgery.
The researchers received a $761,119 National Institutes of Health Small Business Innovation Research grant to fund their work.
Additionally, computer science professor Mahmut Karakaya was awarded a grant totaling $259,316 from the National Science Foundation Research in Undergraduate Institutions for his research into deep learning and iris recognition systems.
