22 GI leadership moves in 2019 so far

Surpassing the halfway point of 2019, there have been 22 leadership moves in the gastroenterology industry so far.

Richard Jamison, MD, began his tenure as Portland-based The Oregon Clinic's new president after Craig Fausel, MD, retired.

The International Society for Diseases of the Esophagus named Kansas City-based University of Kansas Cancer Center gastroenterologist Prateek Sharma, MD, as its new president. Four insights:

Glens Falls (N.Y.) Hospital named gastroenterologist Howard P. Fritz, MD, CMO and vice president of medical affairs.

Rohan Jeyarajah, MD, was appointed as Fort Worth, Texas-based TCU and UNTHSC School of Medicine's first academic chair of surgery.

CRH Medical appointed Tushar Ramani, MD, CEO, replacing outgoing CEO Edward Wright.

Synlogic named former Janssen Research & Development Vice President Scott Plevy, MD, its chief scientific officer.

Cleveland Clinic Weston (Fla.) promoted Tolga Erim, DO, to gastroenterology department chairman.

The Cleveland Clinic Pediatric Institute named pediatric gastroenterologist Karen F. Murray, MD, as its new chair, as well as the physician-in-chief of Cleveland Clinic Children's and president of the Cleveland Clinic Children's Hospital for Rehabilitation.

Gastroenterologist Larry Bookman, MD, became the Oklahoma State Medical Association's newest president.

Providence, R.I.-based University Gastroenterology named Eric Berthiaume, MD, president.

Hashem El-Serag, MD, began his term as president of the American Gastroenterological Association at Digestive Disease Week 2019, May 18-21 in San Diego.

The American Society for Gastrointestinal Endoscopy appointed John Vargo, II, MD, its new president at Digestive Disease Week 2019, May 18-21 in San Diego.

Conmed's board will soon be without an independent director, as Dirk Kuyper submitted his resignation notice, effective Aug. 1.

The journals of the American Gastroenterological Association selected several new editorial fellows for 2019-20. They include:

Feng Su, MD, of the University of Washington, Seattle
Austin Chiang, MD, of the Sidney Kimmel Medical College of Thomas Jefferson University, Philadelphia
