ASGE updates Barrett's esophagus guidelines to include new diagnostic platform — 3 insights

The American Society for Gastrointestinal Endoscopy included CDx Diagnostics' Wats3D Diagnostic Platform in its Standards of Practice Committee guidelines.

What you should know:

1. The guidelines relate to the screening and surveillance of Barrett's esophagus.

2. Wats3D uses a sampling brush to clear a wider area of sample tissue, which allows for a surgeon to capture "the full thickness of the epithelium," including submucosa. CDx developed a 3D computer image analysis system that can create a 3D microbiopsy view of the sample.

3. The computer system then uses artificial intelligence to highlight potential abnormalities in the sample for analysis.

"It is our hope that broader use of Wats3D can potentially transform [esophageal cancer] into a preventable disease," said CDx Diagnostics CEO William Huffnagle. Barrett's esophagus is a precursor to esophageal cancer.
