Every major transaction in GI in 2019

Gastroenterology has been ripe with M&A activity in 2019. Whether through private equity, strategic acquisition or new partnership, 2019 is turning into a banner year for the specialty.

Here is every major transaction in gastroenterology throughout the year so far:

Miami-based Gastro Health acquired Longwood, Fla.-based Giles Gastroenterology Center, doing business as Gastroenterology Specialists.

Gastro Health acquired Birmingham, Ala.-based Southeast Gastro, its first out-of-state acquisition.

Amulet Capital Partners formed US Digestive Health, a gastrointestinal-focused practice management organization, through its investment in three Pennsylvania GI practices.

Pending government approval, AbbVie will acquire competitor Allergan for $63 billion in a deal that will reverberate through the pharmacy industry.

Cleveland-based University Hospitals teamed up with Jamison, Pa.-based Physicians Endoscopy to transition and relicense a gastroenterology-focused outpatient department into an ASC.

Nashville, Tenn.-based Covenant Surgical Partners entered into a partnership with Phoenix-based Arizona Centers for Digestive Health, adding 11 practices to its portfolio.

Evanston-based Illinois Gastroenterology Group closed a private equity deal joining the GI Alliance, which created the largest independent gastroenterology services organization in the nation.

Pending government approval, Exact Sciences will acquire diagnostic testing company Genomic Health in a $72 per share, $2.8 billion dollar deal, creating a globally focused cancer diagnostics company in the process.

Physicians Endoscopy and Capital Digestive Care entered into a strategic partnership Aug. 1, which saw the two companies form a management platform.
