GI physician undergoes new artificial intelligence colonoscopy procedure

 

Jon LaPook, MD, gastroenterologist and chief medical correspondent for CBS News, underwent a colonoscopy aided by artificial intelligence, WDEF reported.

Here are the key details to know:

1, Dr. LaPook is an early participant in a study determining whether AI can aid in detecting polyps during colonoscopy.

2. The colonoscopy was performed by Mark Pochapin, MD, New York City-based NYU Langone Health's chief of gastroenterology.

3. Two polyps were detected during Dr. LaPook's colonoscopy, one of which was found toward the end of the procedure through AI.
