Japan university creates device to protect against COVID-19 transmission during endoscopy

Gastroenterology researchers from Tohoku University Graduate School of Medicine in Sendai, Japan, created a device that protects against COVID-19 transmission during esophagogastroduodenoscopies, DOTmed reports.

What you should know:

1. The device captures coarse droplets from patients undergoing EGD and reduces the diffusion of aerosol droplets.

2. The device holds a mouthpiece that comes with a fixing belt and a square of fabric attached to the top of the mouthpiece. The fabric protects the patient's face and acts as a sleeve for the endoscope.

3. The device has not yet been named.
