Medical diagnostics company Check-Cap completed its post-CE approval study, receiving "positive" final results concerning C-Scan, a preparation-free colonoscopy alternative.
Researchers studied how the C-Scan system detected precancerous polyps compared to fecal immunochemical testing in 90 patients.
What you should know:
1. FIT had a higher specificity than C-Scan in all patients (96 percent to 82 percent).
2. However, C-Scan had a higher sensitivity with polyps larger than 10 millimeters (76 percent to 29 percent).
3. C-Scan also detected all four patients with polyps that were larger than 40 millimeters, compared to FIT, which only detected one of those patients.
4. C-Scan had a sensitivity of 66 percent in all patients, including those with polyps smaller than 10 millimeters, while FIT had a sensitivity of 23 percent.
