Takeda commits $9.2M to Global Fund — 4 insights

Takeda pledged to donate $1 billion yen ($9.2 million) over five years to the Global Fund's Sixth Replenishment over the next five years, the first private sector company to do so.

What you should know:

1. The Global Fund will use the funds to improve maternal and child health by improving prenatal and postnatal HIV, tuberculosis and malaria services in Africa.

2. This is the second time Takeda has donated to the Global Fund. The company previously donated 1 billion yen to be used over 10 years.

3. The Global Fund is attempting to raise $14 billion, with at least $1 billion from the private sector, over the next three years.

4. If successful, the fund expects to help save 16 million lives while cutting mortality rates associated with HIV, tuberculosis and malaria.
