MiraMed Circle of Warmth donates 250+ coats to street medicine initiatives

Jackson, Mich.-based MiraMed Global Services has donated more than 250 coats in Michigan and Illinois, according to a Dec. 11 news release.

In November, MiraMed Circle of Warmth campaign sent 150 coats to Ann-Arbor, Mich.-based Wolverine Street Medicine, and in December, donated 125 coats to Chicago Street Medicine. Both organizations work to help the health of people experiencing homelessness, the release said.

The campaign also reached the 25 percent goal for its third annual partnership with Detroit-based Empowerment Plan, a humanitarian organization. So far, organizations collected more than $30,000 in donations.

"A large challenge for many people experiencing homelessness is accessing healthcare," Tony Mira, CEO and chairman of MireMed Global Services, said in the release. "Street medicine is a relatively new concept within the last decade, essentially utilizing physicians in training to make 'house calls' to provide care for individuals where they sleep. I am very proud that our campaign is able to support these essential organizations."
