16 New York City ASCs

New York City is the widely recognized cultural hub of the United States. The city boasts such icons as the Statue of Liberty, the Empire State Building and the Metropolitan Museum of Art. NYC is also home to a number of ASCs across its five boroughs. Here are 16 NYC ASCs to know.

Advanced Endoscopy Center. Advanced Endoscopy Center opened in 2007 in the Bronx. The center is a joint venture with Physicians and Montefiore Medical Center in New York. The center has 12 physician owners. AEC will perform more than 12,000 cases this year. The endoscopy center is an American Society of Gastrointestinal Endoscopy Center of Excellence, Medicare-certified and AAAHC accredited.
 
Ambulatory Surgery Center of Greater New York. The ASC of Greater New York houses two surgical suites dedicated to ophthalmic surgery. The center opened in 1987. More than 20 physicians perform cataract surgery and comprehensive ophthalmology procedures at the center. The center also hosts retina disease specialists, corneal specialists, an oculoplastic surgeon and anesthesiologists. The center is accredited by AAAHC.

Brooklyn Eye Surgery Center. Brooklyn Eye Surgery Center offers cataract surgery, corneal transplant surgery, glaucoma treatment, retinal disease treatment, diabetic eye care, oculoplastics and cosmetic eye lid surgery. The center was one of the first freestanding, AAAHC-accredited ASCs in New York City. More than 30 physicians perform procedures at the center.

Brooklyn Surgery Center. Brooklyn Surgery Center focuses on GI/endoscopy procedures, orthopedic surgery and infertility treatment. The center offers colonoscopy, endoscopy, endoscopy ultrasound, esophageal dilation, hemorrhoid banding, radiofrequency ablation and endoscopic mucosal resection therapy. Orthopedic services include minimally invasive, arthroscopic and endoscopic options. Brooklyn Surgery Center offers infertility treatment for men and women. The surgery center has 11 physician owners. The center is accredited by AAAHC.

Carnegie Hill Endoscopy. Carnegie Hill Endoscopy is a joint venture with Physicians Endoscopy and New York-based Mount Sinai Health System. The endoscopy center opened in Manhattan in 2012. In April 2015, the center outfitted all five of its procedure rooms with the Fuse Endoscopy System. CHE has 22 physician owners. All nurses working at the center are certified by the Society of Gastroenterology Nurses and Associates as advanced GI technical specialists. Additionally, all technicians working at the center are SGNA certified as GI technical specialists and certified as flexible scope reprocessor by the Certification Board for Sterile Processing and Distribution. The SGNA granted CHE the 2015 Flame Award for Unit Excellence. CHE is accredited by the Joint Commission. The center works with Federally Qualified Health Centers to provide free colonoscopies to uninsured and underinsured patients in New York.
         
East Side Endoscopy. East Side Endoscopy is a joint venture between 16 physician owners, Physicians Endoscopy and New York-based Mount Sinai Health System. The Manhattan endoscopy center, opened in 2010, is an ASGE Center of Excellence. East Side Endoscopy regularly contributes data to the NYC Colonoscopy Quality Benchmarking Group, as well as the GIQuIC registry. The endoscopy center also has a charitable care program.

Empire State Ambulatory Surgery Center. Empire State ASC in the Bronx has 12 physician owners. The center is an affiliate of the New York Eye and Ear Infirmary of Mount Sinai. The center is also affiliated with Ambulatory Surgical Centers of America. Empire State ASC offers ophthalmology, orthopedic and podiatry procedures.

Gramercy Surgery Center. Gramercy Surgery Center offers bariatrics, general surgery, gynecology, interventional radiology, orthopedics, ENT, pain management, plastic and reconstructive surgery, podiatry, radiation oncology, urology and vascular surgery. The AAAHC-accredited facility opened in 2006. Anesthesiologist David Albert, MD, serves as medical director of the center. In addition to its Manhattan location, the surgery center also has a location in Queens. The Queens location offers pain management, ENT and urology services.

Manhattan Endoscopy. Manhattan Endoscopy hosts procedures performed by 29 physicians. The center is accredited by the Joint Commission and is an ASGE center of excellence. The center also participates in the NYC Colonoscopy Quality Benchmarking initiative. Manhattan Endoscopy also offers free colorectal cancer screenings to low-income and uninsured patients through its charity care program.

Manhattan Surgery Center. Manhattan Surgery Center, an affiliate if Ambulatory Surgical Centers of America, offers ENT, orthopedics, ophthalmology and pain management procedures. The center has nearly 30 physician-owners. The center's first case was performed in April 2013.

Midtown Surgery Center. Midtown Surgery Center opened in Manhattan in 2010. The surgery center offers general surgery, orthopedics, ENT, gynecology, pain management, podiatry and spine procedures. Eastside Anesthesia provides the center with anesthesiology services. More than 70 physicians perform cases at the center.

New York Eye Surgery Center. New York Eye Surgery Center is located in the Bronx. The center offers cataract surgery, glaucoma treatment, retinal disease treatment and oculoplastic procedures. Eleven physicians perform procedures at the center. Jerome H. Levy, MD, FACS, serves as surgeon director of the center.

New York Surgery Center Queens. New York Surgery Center Queens offers orthopedics, ENT, plastics, pain management, ophthalmology, gynecology, general surgery, podiatry, spine and colorectal surgery. The center is accredited by AAAHC. The center has a multilingual staff and offers translation services.

Queens Endoscopy. Queens Endoscopy opened in May 2013. The endoscopy center has 11 physician-owners and hosts approximately 15,000 cases per year. The center offers colonoscopy, flexible sigmoidoscopy, endoscopic ultrasonography, ERCP, capsule endoscopy, esophageal dilation, percutaneous endoscopic gastrostomy and more.

Sheepshead Bay Surgery Center. Sheepshead Bay Surgery Center in Brooklyn has been in operation since 1999. The 5,000-square-foot center houses two operating rooms and a laser procedure room. The center is accredited by the Joint Commission. Sheepshead Bay Surgery Center focuses on ophthalmology procedures including cataract surgery, oculoplastics, laser surgery, corneal transplants and retinal surgery.  

SurgiCare of Manhattan. SurgiCare of Manhattan hosts cases performed by 20 physicians. The freestanding, multispecialty ASC offers orthopedics, spine, pain management, podiatry and ENT procedures.  The center was named an APEX Quality Award Winner for Healthcare Excellence for 2011 to 2012.
