Here are three ambulatory surgery center physicians who have also authored non-clinical books.
Gerald Imber, MD, plastic surgeon (New York). Dr. Imber authored the novel "Wendell Black, MD," according to a Radar Online report. The book centers on Dr. Wendell Black, an NY police department medical surgeon who moonlights in the ER department of a hospital and is plunged into an international drug smuggling investigation.
Dr. Imber provides care at an ambulatory surgery facility in New York that is fully equipped and accredited. Additionally, he is on the staff of The New York-Presbyterian Hospital and serves as an assistant clinical professor at the Weill-Cornell Medical Center. He offers the full range of cosmetic procedures and also focuses on facial rejuvenation and the treatment and prevention of facial aging. He is a frequent speaker and visiting professor.
Bert Mandelbaum, MD, Institute for Sports Sciences in Los Angeles and Surgery Center of the Pacific (Santa Monica, Calif.). Dr. Mandelbaum's book, "The Win Within: Capturing Your Victorious Spirit," a motivational book that aims to help people find the inner drive to succeed and capture their victorious spirit. According to Dr. Mandelbaum, everyone has that inner drive, but people need to learn to view life the way top-performing athletes do.
Dr. Mandelbaum is the director of both the sports medicine fellowship program and the research and education foundation at Santa Monica (Calif.) Orthopaedic and Sports Medicine Group; and serves as co-chair of medical affairs for the Institute for Sports Sciences in Los Angeles. He also serves as the medical director for the FIFA Medical Center of Excellence in Santa Monica and the director of research for Major League Baseball. Most recently, Dr. Mandelbaum was appointed as CMO for the 2015 World Special Olympic Games. He completed a fellowship in sports medicine from University of California, Los Angeles.
Glenn Shepard, MD, Oyster Point Oral & Facial Surgery (Newport News, Va.). Dr. Shepard's book, "The Missile Game," is about a fictional plastic surgeon charged with murder after two bodies are found at his ASC. Additionally, a criminal mastermind and an ISIS terrorist cell are about to go to war and the surgeon must stop them. He has also written another crime thriller, titled "Not for Profit."
Dr. Shepard is a plastic surgeon who practiced solo for 28 years in Newport News, before joining the Plastic Surgery Center of Hampton Roads, also in Newport News. He now provides care at Oyster Point Oral & Facial Surgery. He is a past president of the Virginia Society of Plastic Surgery and served on the editorial staffs of The Journal of Plastic and Reconstructive Surgery and the Journal of Surgery, Gynecology, and Obstetrics.
