Boston Surgery Center (Waltham, Mass.). The surgery center offers stellate ganglion block procedures, which is an injection that both diagnose and treat pain coming from the sympathetic nerves. It is commonly used to treat shingles and complex regional pain syndromes affecting the head, face, neck or arms.

Opened in 2007, the surgery center provides a wide array of pain management procedures, such as trigger point injections, epidural injections and radio frequency ablation. It includes operating rooms, private recovery areas, onsite laboratory services and 11 physicians.

Capitol Surgical Center (Bethesda, Md.). The surgery center offers stellate ganglion block procedures — an injection of local anesthetic into the front of the neck that is typically used for treating pain in the head, neck, chest or arm. The center focuses on pain management services and also offers lumbar sympathetic block procedures, facet blocks and epidural steroid injections. It is staffed by four physicians and accredited by the Accreditation Association for Ambulatory Health Care.

Coast Surgery Center (San Diego). This surgery center offers disc nucleoplasty and intrathecal infusion pump procedures. Disc nucleoplasty is a relatively new, decompressive disc procedure used to treat patients with contained or mildly herniated discs. Intrathecal infusion pump is a modality that uses a wireless and programmable reservoir placed in the abdomen, under the skin. It is typically offered to patients who have been trying various medical and minimally invasive treatments without significant success as well as patients who are experiencing a number of side effects with their medical regimen.

The freestanding surgery center offers surgical services in numerous specialties, including gynecology, orthopedics, spine, podiatry and pain management. It is accredited by the Association for Accreditation of Ambulatory Health Care and a member of the Ambulatory Surgery Center Association.

Southeastern Spine Institute and Ambulatory Surgery Center (Mt. Pleasant, S.C.). The surgery center offers intrathecal pump implant, disc nucleoplasty and the MILD procedure. The intrathecal pump is a drug delivery system that is surgically implanted under the skin of the abdomen. Disc nucleoplasty procedures are minimally invasive treatments for herniated discs. The MILD procedure — minimally invasive lumbar decompression procedure — is used to reduce pain and improve mobility for people with lumbar spinal stenosis. The procedure is currently not reimbursed by Medicare.

The Southeastern Spine Institute, which includes an in-house ambulatory surgery center, is situated on a medical campus that occupies 41,000 square feet. The surgery center is accredited by the Accreditation Association for Ambulatory Health Care and is a U.S. Food and Drug Administration test site for new devices and latest procedures in spinal surgery. Its surgeons perform numerous spinal procedures including lumbar disc microsurgery, lumbar interbody fusion and micro endoscopic discectomy as well as other pain management procedures, such as fascia iliaca block and lumbar sympathetic block.
