4 gynecology-driven surgery centers to know

Gynecology represents a sliver of the cases performed in ambulatory surgery centers, but a number of ASCs have managed to carve a niche in this specialty. Here are four gynecology-driven surgery centers to know.

Atlanta Minimally Invasive Gynecologic Surgery Center. The Atlanta Minimally Invasive Gynecologic Surgery Center features the da Vinci Surgical System. The surgery center was founded by Nathan Mordel, MD, in 2002. Dr. Mordel still performs procedures at the center, along with Janet Lefkowitz, DO. The center offers operative hysterectomy, endometrial ablation, robotic laparoscopic myomectomy, robotic laparoscopic hysterectomy, robotic laparoscopic excision of endometriosis, robotic laparoscopic excision of benign ovarian tumors, suburethral sling placement and more.

Capital Women's Care Frederick (Md.) Ambulatory Surgical Center. The CWC Frederick Ambulatory Surgical Center is affiliated with the Capital Women's Care practice. The practice has nearly 30 locations in Maryland, Virginia and Washington, D.C. Capital Women's Care formed in 1998 as the result of seven practices coming together. The practice has more than 1000 physicians, nurse practitioners, physician assistants and certified nurse midwives.

Pearl SurgiCenter (Portland, Ore.). Pearl SurgiCenter is the surgery center of Pearl Women's Center, also in Portland. The surgery center is Medicare-certified and accredited by the Accreditation Association for Ambulatory Health Care. The practice and surgery center was founded by Richard Rosenfield, MD. Dr. Rosenfield now serves as the practice's executive medical director. Cynthia McNally, MD, also practices with Pearl Women's Center. The center offers a wide range of gynecology and cosmetic gynecology services.   

Women's Surgery Center (Chattanooga, Tenn.). The Women's Surgery Center hosts procedures performed by Robert Furr, MD, and C.Y. Lui, MD. Dr. Furr is the director of the surgery center. He performed the first single incision laparoscopic/robotic hysterectomy in the Tennessee. The center offers procedures performed with the da Vinci Surgical System including hysterectomy, myomectomy and sacrocolpopexy. The surgery center also offers general gynecological procedures including uterine fibroid embolization, myomectomy and hysterectomy.
