First commercial cases with OSSIOfiber bone pin performed at Ohio ASC

Physicians performed the first commercial cases using the OSSIOfiber bone pin at the Westerville, Ohio-based Polaris Surgery Center this month in hammertoe repair surgeries.

The key details to know:

1. The physicians who performed the procedures were Gregory Berlet, MD, Christopher Hyer, DPM, and Mark Prissel, DPM, who are surgeons and partners at the Worthington, Ohio-based Orthopaedic Foot & Ankle Center.

2. The bone pin is made out of bio-integrative material that fuses to the patient's bone during the healing process, leaving no permanent hardware behind.

3. “OSSIOfiber brings forward a real paradigm shift in how we approach bone fixation. The new bio-integrative implant is truly unique in that it provides immediate stable fixation that physiologically adapts with the bone during the healing process,” Dr. Berlet said.
