C-arms slimming down for use in outpatient surgery centers

C-arms, intraoperative imaging devices, are becoming more compact as more procedures move to the outpatient setting, according to healthcare industry news source Dotmed.

The devices are becoming more portable, with companies such as Canon Medical Systems, GE Healthcare and Philips making slimmer and more portable C-arms for use in outpatient surgery centers.

Manufacturers also are reducing radiation doses and streamlining C-arm workflows. Siemens Healthineers received FDA approval for its ARTIS icono floor single-plane system last September, which uses the lowest dose of radiation to produce the best image possible.
