Involve your staff in storage decisions. Ask surgeons, clinical support staff, and non-clinical employees for their input on types of storage, management systems, and what process will work best for them. Making these decisions will directly impact workflow and productivity, so it is important to prioritize having these in-depth conversations. - Stay flexible
As new construction occurs and additional Operating Rooms (OR) pop up and the Sterile Processing Department (SPD) expands, the footprint of your storage room may shrink. With a future shaped by pandemic preparedness and the Medicare inpatient-only (IPO) list gradually being phased out over the coming years, you should expect your supply needs to shift over time as you consider new services.
