ASA Asks CMS to Revise Meaningful Use Criteria

On Feb. 18, the American Society of Anesthesiologists submitted a letter to CMS advising changes to meaningful use criteria of electronic health records, according to an ASA release.

Currently, a majority of anesthesiologists are deemed eligible for the incentive but are unable to satisfy the criteria of meaningful use due to the nature of anesthesiology practices. The ASA drew up a chart that requests CMS and ONC revise the Stage 1 meaningful use requirements to ensure that eligible anesthesiologists are able to demonstrate compliance.

The ASA believes that while the current meaningful use requirements are challenging for anesthesiologists, the vast majority of anesthesiologists are eligible for the $44,000 incentive.
