Mother-daughter duo arrested after Arizona pain clinic raid — 3 details

Federal agents raided Ava Pain Management in Tempe, Ariz., and arrested two employees April 18, according to ABC 15 Arizona.

Three details:

1. Clinic employees Jelina Ip, MD, and her mother, Alane Ip, are accused of overprescribing oxycodone, morphine and other controlled substances. They're facing dozens of criminal charges, including fraud, illegally conducting an enterprise and illegal narcotic administration.

2. The Drug Enforcement Agency began investigating the practice in 2017, when it was operating as White Cranes Medical Center.

3. Authorities said the clinic had prescribed 1.4 million doses of opioids in an 18-month period and ordered Dr. Ip to stop prescribing controlled substances. White Cranes Medical Center later began operating as Ava Pain Management, and Dr. Ip allegedly continued prescribing after the name change.
