Here are three updates regarding the ASC accreditation process:

CMS takes action to increase oversight of Medicare's accrediting organizations
CMS administrator Seema Verma said the agency is increasing transparency for patients on accrediting organizations' performance in three ways. Read more here

The Joint Commission deletes requirement for deemed-status ASCs
The Joint Commission no longer requires ASCs with deemed status to collect data on medical appropriateness and necessity of procedures. The Joint Commission removed the requirement after CMS revised the regulatory language of its Conditions for Coverage for ASCs. Read more here.

Outpatient Ophthalmic Surgery Society launches beta test of ophthalmic ASC accreditation model
The OOSS partnered with the Institute for Medical Quality to determine and improve alternative accreditation survey processes for ophthalmic outpatient surgery centers. Read more here.
