AAAASF releases study on deaths after outpatient cosmetic surgery: 3 quick facts

The American Association for Accreditation of Ambulatory Surgery Facilities and Samuel Lin, MD, published a retrospective analysis of data on deaths associated with outpatient plastic surgery procedures.

Here's what you should know:

1. The study, "National Mortality Rates after Outpatient Cosmetic Surgery and Low Rates of Perioperative Deep Vein Thrombosis Screening and Prophylaxis," is published in the latest issue of Plastic and Reconstructive Surgery.

2. Based on the results, researchers concluded "renewed efforts to use venous thromboembolism prophylaxis assessments are warranted and that clinicians should be particularly mindful in the case of abdominoplasty."

3. AAAASF and Nebula Data Intel are collaborating on an initiative to collect clinical, operational and patient satisfaction data. The initiative aims to help outpatient surgical centers improve performance.
