Medical travel accrediting body aims to enhance patient experience — 4 things to know

The Global Healthcare Accreditation program was formed in 2016 to enhance patient experience for medical travelers who face barriers in language, culture and transportation.

Here are four things to know about the organization.

1. The independent accrediting body evaluates and monitors hospitals' and clinics' customized processes for medical travelers.

2. The program also reviews business functions related to medical travel, such as marketing, finance and technology.

3. GHA recently accredited the Vejthani Hospital in Bangkok, Thailand, for its Medical Travel Services Program. It is the second GHA-accredited hospital in Thailand.

4. The program focuses on the entire medical travel care continuum, patient experience and sustainable business practices, according to Karen Timmons, CEO of the GHA program.

"Traveling patients and payers are increasingly demanding a high-quality patient experience. GHA seeks to assure the patient is actively engaged and the organization is proactive in managing cultural sensitivities and communication at each touch point along this Medical Travel Care Continuum," Ms. Timmons said.
