The Joint Commission deletes data collection requirement for deemed-status ASCs

The Joint Commission will not require the performance improvement standard for deemed-status ASCs, effective July 1, 2019.

Here are the key details to know:

1. The standard required ASCs to collect data on appropriateness and medical necessity of procedures.

2. The standard was originally designed to align with CMS' conditions for coverage.

3. The Joint Commission decided to remove the standard after regulatory language for appropriateness and medical necessity data gathering changed.
