3 tips for handling physician burnout

There are a variety of ways physician burnout can be addressed, according to a report from Medical Economics.

Three tips:

1. The American Medical Association's STEPS Forward program outlines ways physicians can tackle burnout at work, including team documentation, pre-visit planning for patients and team meetings.

2. The first Joy in Medicine CEO Consortium, a program of the Sierra Sacramento Valley Medical Society addressing burnout, suggested tracking physician turnover, encouraging the development of leadership skills and reducing regulatory burden.

3. Many physicians feel overwhelmed due to having little control over their work environment, meaning system wide changes are needed to resolve the issue of burnout, Christine A. Sinsky, MD, vice president of professional satisfaction for the AMA told Medical Economics.
