3 tips for successful patient communications in ASCs

Effective communication between patients and staff helps an ASC run more effectively, according to the Outpatient Ophthalmic Surgery Society.

1. Focus on lines of communication. Keeping communication open and focused ensures ASC staff collects necessary patient information.

2. Track outcomes. ASCs tend to focus on either the good or the bad outcomes, while patients who fall somewhere in the middle get left out. Collecting data on all outcomes helps ASCs benchmark performance and improve communication processes.

3. Engage staff. Encouraging staff to collect preoperative data on patients ensures surgical staff is prepared on the day of surgery, and helps minimize communication errors.
