United Memorial Medical Center in Batavia, N.Y., has reported six patients have clostridium difficile, an unusually high number, according to a Democrat and Chronicle report.
Although specific data were not available, hospital spokesperson Colleen Flynn said not all of the patients acquired C. diff at the hospital.
Ms. Flynn said the increase in cases of C diff. may be due to an increased number of patients in the medical-surgical units of the hospital: Whereas the hospital generally has approximately 40 patients in those units, there are currently 65.
