Medscape released its National Physician Burnout & Depression Report 2018. To compile the report, Medscape surveyed over 15,000 physicians from 29 specialties about their level of burnout and depression.

How burnout affects male and female physicians:

Men:
38 percent

Women:
48 percent

How male and female physicians dealt with burnout:

Exercise:
Women: 47 percent
Men: 52 percent

Talk with family members/close friends:
Women: 55 percent
Men: 39 percent

Play or listen to music:
Women: 34 percent
Men: 38 percent

Sleep:
Women: 46 percent
Men: 38 percent

Isolate myself from others:
Women: 38 percent
Men: 36 percent

Eat junk food:
Women: 39 percent
Men: 27 percent

Drink alcohol:
Women: 22 percent
Men: 23 percent

Binge eat:
Women: 23 percent
Men: 18 percent

Other:
Women: 12 percent
Men: 9 percent

Smoke cigarettes/use nicotine products:
Women: 1 percent
Men: 4 percent

Use prescription drugs:
Women: 3 percent
Men: 2 percent

Smoke marijuana/consume marijuana products:
Women: 1 percent
Men: 2 percent
