California Ambulatory Surgery Association debuts opioid use toolkit

The California Ambulatory Surgery Association released an opioid toolkit for post-surgical patients Sept. 16.

The toolkit was developed with help from the California Society of Anesthesiologists and includes information for both patients and physicians on pain management, including posters, brochures and videos outlining safe opioid use and prescribing. Information for the materials was derived from policies and research from the American Medical Association, the CDC and HHS.

"This toolkit represents our commitment to ensuring that patients who truly need opioids to treat their pain have appropriate access, while expanding knowledge about non-opioid medications, techniques, and resources available to the medical community and patients for optimal pain control and protecting patient safety," said HST Pathways COO Tara Vail, who worked with the CASA board of directors on the toolkit.

The toolkit is available now for CASA members to use and share with other ASCs in California and throughout the U.S.
