Cost burden from adverse events estimated at $317.9B, expected to increase by 2022: 3 insights

Frost & Sullivan released an analysis measuring the frequency of adverse events and their effect on patient mortality and costs for healthcare organizations worldwide.

 Here are the key findings:

1. Frost & Sullivan estimated adverse events put an additional cost burden of $317.9 billion on hospitals across the U.S. and Western Europe, adversely affecting 91.8 million patients and leading to 1.95 million deaths in 2016.

2. The cost burden is expected to reach $383.7 billion by 2022.

3. Frost & Sullivan identified health data exchanges, clinical data analytics and blockchain for enhanced data privacy among ways to improve safety.
