July worst month of 2018 for healthcare breaches — Which states were most affected?

More records were exposed this month in healthcare data breaches than any previous month in 2018 so far, according to HIPAA Journal.

Here are the key details to know:

1. There were 33 breaches in July — the same number as June — but 543.6 percent more records were exposed in July.

2. The breaches impacted 2,292,552 patients, and 202,859 more records were exposed in July.

3. Florida and Massachusetts had three data breaches, while Washington, Texas, Virginia, Pennsylvania, New York and Alaska had two. Arkansas, California, Colorado, Idaho, Indiana, Illinois, Maryland, Michigan, Montana, Nebraska, New Jersey, New Mexico and Tennessee had one.
