Missouri ASC wins quality award for pain-management protocol: 4 insights

Columbia, Mo.-based CSA Surgical Center received the Bernard A. Kershner Award for a study improving pain management of laparoscopic cholecystectomy patients.

Four insights:

1. The Accreditation Association for Ambulatory Health Care recognized the ASC for its study on administering oral acetaminophen preoperatively.

2. CSA Surgical Center's protocol was linked to improvements in postoperative pain management and shorter lengths of stay.

3. CSA Surgical Center adopted the oral acetaminophen protocol for numerous procedures as a result.

4. The Bernard A. Kershner Award recognizes AAAHC-accredited organizations that have submitted detailed information on their quality improvement studies.
