Texas committee says ASC infection reporting isn't useful — 3 insights

A Texas committee said ASCs shouldn't be required to report healthcare-associated infections — at least for now, according to the Texas Ambulatory Surgery Center Society.

What you should know:

1. The Texas Healthcare Safety Advisory Committee recommended that the state stop requiring ASCs to report HAIs until the National Healthcare Safety Network provides statistical analyses for infections in that type of setting.

2. The committee said HAI data currently collected from ASCs is limited and not statistically significant.

3. The Healthcare Safety Advisory Committee comprises 13 members representing the community, healthcare industry and public health sector.
