The Advanced Medical Technology Association has issued a statement commending the U.S. House of Representatives passage of the Protect Medical Innovation Act of 2011, according to a news release.
The bill calls for the repeal of a nearly $30 billion excise tax on medical devices that would take effect in 2013.
The statement was attributed to Stephen J. Ubl, president and CEO of AdvaMed. His comments included the following, according to the release:
"On behalf of the nearly 2 million men and women whose jobs are supported by the medical technology industry, we would like to thank Rep. Erik Paulsen (R-Minn.), the author of the bill that passed today, for his tireless leadership in seeking repeal of this onerous tax, as well as all the other members of the House who supported the legislation.
"AdvaMed encourages the U.S. Senate to join the House and act promptly to repeal this counterproductive, job-destroying tax."
