OrthoSensor has developed a platform technology for performing real-time diagnostics on orthopedic implants, according to a report by MedGadget.
An electronic sensor is embedded into an orthopedic implant and monitors parameters such as kinematic and force data. The data is relayed wirelessly to a custom graphical user interface.
The OrthoSensor Knee Trial, cleared by the FDA, is the first to use the technology. It is designed to reduce misalignment and poor soft tissue imbalance during knee arthroplasty procedures.
