5 Facility Factors That Affect a Surgery Center's Value

Here are five statistics on facility risk factors in ambulatory surgery centers, according to VMG Health's ValueDriver ASC Survey 2011. In compiling the survey, VMG spoke with leaders of the 20 of the largest ASC management and operating companies in the United States. Note: The choice that received the most responses is italicized.

1. Significant capital expenditure requirements due to aged equipment

Very high impact: 0 percent
High impact: 56 percent
Medium impact: 44 percent
Low impact: 0 percent
Very low impact: 0 percent

2. Aging facility/poor layout of facility

Very high impact: 13 percent
High impact: 42 percent
Medium impact: 38 percent
Low impact: 0 percent
Very low impact: 7 percent

3. Inability to expand existing capacity to accommodate growth
Very high impact: 0 percent
High impact: 33 percent
Medium impact: 47 percent
Low impact: 13 percent
Very low impact: 7 percent

4. Facility location (patient/physician convenience)
Very high impact: 0 percent
High impact: 27 percent
Medium impact: 40 percent
Low impact: 27 percent
Very low impact: 7 percent

5. According to the survey, facility age and capital expenditure requirements had high impacts on value, while facility location and capacity issues had medium impacts on value.
