Fair Health analyzed claim line trends in five service settings, including ASCs, using a national database of billions of privately insured healthcare claims.
Here are four findings.
1. From 2007 to 2016, claim lines for ASCs increased 127 percent in rural areas, compared to 95 percent in urban areas and 97 percent nationally.
2. In almost every age group, females surpassed males in claim lines with ASC usage in 2016. In the 18 and under age group, males accounted for more of the claim line distribution than females.
3. The number of claim lines grew for all five areas of service studied: retail clinics, urgent care centers, telehealth, ASCs and ERs. However, growth was more significant in urgent care centers, retail clinics and telehealth.
4. From 2007 to 2016, total claim lines with ER usage grew 229 percent across the U.S. — more than double the increase for ASCs in the same timeframe.
