How productivity & compensation has changed for specialists over the past year

Pay for specialty physicians increased while productivity stagnated over the last year, according to the 2019 Medical Group Compensation and Productivity Survey from the American Medical Group Association.

The AMGA included responses from 117,000 providers representing 272 medical groups in its survey.

How specialist and productivity has changed in the last year:

General cardiologists
Compensation: 4.4 percent increase
Work relative value unit (productivity): 1.8 percent increase

Dermatology
Compensation: 3.3 percent increase
Work relative value unit: 1.6 percent increase

Gastroenterology
Compensation: 0.4 percent decrease
Work relative value unit (productivity): 0.7 percent increase

Internal medicine
Compensation: 2.1 percent increase
Work relative value unit (productivity): 1.1 percent increase

Psychiatry
Compensation: 15.6 percent increase
Work relative value unit (productivity): 1.1 percent decrease

Medical specialties
Compensation: 3.39 percent increase
Work relative value unit (productivity): 1.9 percent increase
