The 5 best, worst states for RN salary

California offers the highest registered nurse salaries, and South Dakota offers the lowest, according to 2018 data from the U.S. Bureau of Labor Statistics.

The BLS data excludes salaries from nurse practitioners, nurse anesthetists and nurse midwives.

The top five states:

1. California: $106,950
2. Hawaii: $98,080
3. Massachusetts: $92,140
4. Oregon: $91,080
5. Alaska: $89,310

The bottom five states:

1. South Dakota: $58,340
2. Mississippi: $58,490
3. Iowa: $59,130
4. Alabama: $59,470
5. Arkansas: $60,780
